I've been trying to capture the moon (full, or almost full as it is here) from where we live ever since I got a decent camera. But it's been a lengthy process. My first attempts were without a tripod, and they all got to blurry, then there were to many clouds. Then it took me some time to find the right exposures for the details in the moon to come out right.
I had almost given up the project when I one winter night just happened to see the moon over the horizon, and with no clouds in sight. I set the exposure and ISO settings right away, and started shooting. And what do you know. The following shot emerged when I developed the shots.
The shot has been trimmed around the edges, but no further manipulation has been done. I'm pretty satisfied with the result. And it was shot hand held :)
