A bright idea?

I don't know about the "bright idea" thing, but I wanted to try to take a shot of a light-bulb. I've seen a lot of shots like this, so I had an idea of what I wanted to focus on.

The result is not as good as I had hoped for, but nor is it as bad as I feared. I really wanted to focus on the wire which makes it glow, and in this task I "failed". But the rest of the bulb is OK.

If you have any good ideas on which settings (shutter speeds and aperture size)I should use to avoid the "burn out" from the glowing wire, please let me know :). PS, This shot is hand held, but I do have a tri-pod if the shutter speeds gets to low.
